Price Factors for LEGO Sets.
LEGO valuation goes far beyond “sealed or opened”. These are the eight factors our collector team weighs when pricing your set — ranked roughly by impact.
Sealed vs. Opened
Factory-sealed sets command the strongest premium, especially for retired themes.
- Premium: Untouched factory seal, sharp shrink-wrap
- Deduction: Reseals, cut tape, opened then re-taped
Retirement Status
Retired sets appreciate fastest. Time since EOL and rarity in market drive pricing.
- Premium: Long-retired, low secondary supply
- Deduction: Still in production or recently re-released
Box Condition
Even sealed sets lose value with shelf wear. Corners, creases, and dents all graded.
- Premium: Crisp corners, no creases, display-grade front
- Deduction: Crushed corners, deep creases, water marks
Minifigures Included
Exclusive or rare minifigs can represent 30–60% of total set value on their own.
- Premium: All original figs present, rare/exclusive variants
- Deduction: Missing figs, repro accessories, wrong heads/torsos
Medium impact
Completeness of Parts
For opened sets we verify against the official inventory — missing parts deduct sharply.
- Premium: 100% inventory match, sealed inner polybags
- Deduction: Missing rare parts, substituted colors
high impact
Manuals & Extras
Original instruction booklets, stickers (unapplied), and inserts matter for collectors.
- Premium: Crisp manual, unapplied sticker sheet, COA
- Deduction: Torn manual, applied/missing stickers
Theme & Demand
UCS Star Wars, Modular Buildings, Technic flagships outperform generic themes.
- Premium: UCS, Modular, Ideas, licensed flagships
- Deduction: Generic City/Friends, oversaturated themes
Provenance & Storage
Smoke-free, climate-controlled storage history reassures buyers and protects value.
- Premium: Original receipt, smoke-free, climate-stored
- Deduction: Yellowing, smoke odor, sun-faded box
